What is fair isle knitting? It is a method of knitting colour patterns by carrying two different coloured strands of yarn along the same row. While technically termed 'stranded knitting' it is commonly known as 'fair isle' knitting as some of the world's most famous work comes from the Fair Isle in Shetland, Scotland. However, this type of colourwork can be found the world over, including traditional designs from Iceland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, and many other places, as well as contemporary designs as well.
